Download software from reliable sources only. And don’t rush the installation process. More often than not, the apps we download off the Web come bundled with bonus software. If you are not careful, you might install a malicious extra. Do not give into naivety. No anti-virus app can protect you if you act recklessly. Forget about the “Next-Next-Finish” strategy. If available, use the advanced/custom/manual setup option. Take your time. Make sure that you know what you are doing. Deselect all unwanted extras. And before you click on that “Accept” button, go through the terms and conditions. If you cannot read the whole document, scan it with an online EULA analyzer. Even a little extra attention can spare you an avalanche of problems. Opt out of the installation if you notice anything suspicious!
