How did I get infected with?

There are many ways for an adware infection to travel the web. Corrupted ads, torrents, bundling or the good, old spam emails; there are countless possible options. However, to succeed, all of them rely on one crucial thing – your negligence. Let’s take the bundling method as an example. Developers often add extra programs to the installation files of many free programs. They hope that you will select the standard installation method. The standard/fast installation is a completely automatic process. Once you start it, all extras will be installed without further ado. However, if you are vigilant, you will spot the advanced installation wizard. This option is your best friend. Under it, you will be able to stop the installation of all unwanted programs that came along. We strongly recommend deselecting all additional software. Those tools do appear useful, yet, if you truly needed such apps, you would have downloaded them by yourself.

Why is this dangerous?

The adware jeopardizes your security. This tool is constantly spying on you. What do you think it does with the data? Well, sell it, of course. There are many potential buyers. You won’t be so surprised once we tell you that the adware can steal your usernames, passwords and email addresses. Check your inbox. It is quite likely that it is full of spam emails. It will be wise if you refrain yourself from using social media and banking services while the utility runs on your machine. Otherwise, you risk losing money or, even, becoming a victim of an identity theft. Yes, the adware is in no way as dangerous as Trojans are. But this parasite should not be underestimated. It is a weakness in your PC’s security. Some of the ads you are exposed to are malicious. Hackers often use adware applications to spread their nasty programs. If you click on a corrupted ad, you will be taken to an infected website. One click is all it takes for a drive-by download to be executed. These types of download do not require the user’s interaction. One click on a malicious app is all it takes to execute a drive-by download. Such an event may occur at any time. The adware will try to trick you into clicking on ads unintentionally. At the most unexpected times, it will open a pop-up window right under the cursor of your mouse. If this pop-up happens to be corrupted, malware will be distributed to your machine. Do yourself a favor and remove the adware immediately. The sooner it is gone, the better!
