If you haven’t changed your homepage on purpose, we must confirm your biggest fear. Your computer is infected with the hijacker. This parasite is not that dangerous. Yet, it is not safe either. The hijacker has only one goal – to generate revenue for its owners. To do so, it uses a pay-per-click marketing system. Don’t panic! There is nothing bad in this system, it is the way this parasite uses it that is dangerous. Basically, for every ad you click on, the people behind this tool will get paid. The problem is, you won’t click on any ad, will you. So, you must be exposed to the right kinds of adverts. Here comes the hijacker. This furtive tool will monitor your every online step. It will become your shadow. Every website you visit, every ad you click on, every link you follow, the app will know about it. The hijacker will use the collected data to select ads that will appeal especially to you. However, the ads it displayed are not great deal-finders. Anyone willing to pay can use the hijacker to promote. Hackers often spread malicious content via such applications. There is no way to tell which ads are corrupted and which are not. You can’t trust anything you see on your screen while this tool remains active. Luckily, you can remove the hijacker. Follow our guide and do it manually; or download a trustworthy anti-virus program for automated removal.

How did I get infected with?

There are many ways for a hijacker to travel the web. Fake software updates, corrupted links, and freeware bundling are probably the most commonly used ones. The thing is, your vigilance could have prevented the infection. The crooks rely on your negligence. When installing a program, which method do you prefer: the standard or the advanced installation wizard? If your answer is the standard, you must change your habits. This method is completely automatic. Once you select the standard/fast installation, everything will happen automatically. Your approval will not be needed, hence, you won’t be asked for it. Developers attach extra programs to the installation files of many programs. Especially to the free ones. These extras will be installed without your knowledge. The hijacker might have been one. Yet, there is an easy way to prevent such infections. Use the advanced installation. This method is presented as a suitable choice for IT experts only. However, there is nothing complicated in it. It is a simple step-by-step process. Don’t rush through it. Read the terms and conditions/EULA. Yes, we know. This step is annoying and time-consuming. But it is a good way to spot breaches. If you think that something looks suspicious, abort the installation. Download your software from legitimate websites only. And don’t neglect your anti-virus app. Keep it up to date.

Why is this dangerous?

The website has a search bar for fast access to anything on the Internet. The search results it provides appear to be coming from a well-known search engine, aren’t they? This is just an appearance. The hijacker corrupted them. It adds fake entries among the results. Those, most of the time, are ads. Yet the tool does not mark these entries as advertisements. Thus, you can never know which results are organic and which are sponsored. Doing an objective research will be impossible. Furthermore, all ads you are exposed to are pushed on you by the hijacker. This tool blocks content from its competitors. So, you are not seeing the best deals, you are seeing what you are allowed to see. Soon, you will lose track of the current prices. You will become an easy target. Don’t put up with this. The can never be beneficial to you. This tool is a security issue that must be fixed promptly. The sooner it is gone, the better!
