How did I get infected with?

The adware is a sneaky trickster. This program hitches a ride with other software and lures its victims into installing it unintentionally. The scheme is simple. Developers attach the adware as an extra to the installation file of third-party apps. When you start the installation process, you are presented with a choice between a Standard and an Advanced Setup. Which one do you prefer? If your answer is the standard, change your habits. The Standard Installation is a completely automatic process. Once you start it, there is no going back. The wizard will install on extra programs that were attached. If you select the Advance option, however, you will be presented with a list of all extras. If you dislike the programs, you can deny them access. That is exactly what you should do. Examine the list of extras carefully. Read the Terms and Conditions/EULA and/or do some online research. Install only the programs you trust. Don’t let intruders on board. A little extra caution today can spare you many headaches in the future. Always do your due diligence. Your future self will thank you.

Why is this dangerous?

The adware is a menace that should be removed upon detection. This utility exposes its victims to dozens and dozens of potential online threats. We are talking about the commercials it displays so freely. The adware has no verifying mechanism. It doesn’t check the displayed commercials, nor the advertises behind them. All sorts of crooks take advantage. Hackers included. An unverified advert may arouse unwarranted expectations at best. At worst, it may redirect the user to infected or scam websites. With the adware on board, this scenario is quite possible. You will be introduced to dozens of “great opportunities,” financial software, free online gaming platforms, movie streaming websites, etc. These pages may as well be scams. Do not allow kids to play with your infected device. They are very likely to fall victims of such schemes. Some of the websites have live chat features or require registration with a credit card and email. Both techniques give the crooks a way to contact you. The adware cannot enhance your browsing experience. On the contrary, it prevents you from using your PC normally. You should question everything. With the adware on board, you are more likely to be exposed to scams than to legit offers.
