How did I get infected with?

The Meganotify adware did not hack your computer. It cannot install itself. It received help to enter your machine. It was you the one who installed it. This is not a bad joke, you approved its installation. Unintentionally, of course. You either clicked on a corrupted link, downloaded a malicious software bundle, or installed a fake update. The good old spam emails may also be behind the infection. The thing is, all these methods would have failed if you were just a bit less negligent. Your caution could have prevented the infection. Learn your lesson. The Internet is too dangerous to be that reckless. Pay attention to the fine print. Especially when you are about to install a new program. Forget about the “Next-Next-Finish” installation strategy. If available, always select the Advanced/Custom setup. Many software developers attach extra programs to the payload files of their apps. These extras, more often than not, are malicious programs like the Meganotify adware. Under the Advanced installation, you will be given the opportunity to prevent them from installing. Also, read the terms and conditions. If you cannot spare enough time to read the whole document, use an online EULA analyzer to scan it. If you detect anything out of the ordinary, abort the installation immediately. The key to a secure and infection-free computer is caution. So, don’t be lazy. Always do your due diligence!

Why is this dangerous?

The Meganotify adware is extremely intrusive. It turns your browsing experience into a nightmare. Every time you as much as touch your browser, dozens and dozens of pop-ups cover your screen. You cannot get a simple task done without being interrupted by an advert of some kind. And it seems that your conditions worsen with each passing day. Unfortunately, you are not imagining it. As time passes, the adware gets more aggressive. It will eventually get out of control, but don’t worry about that. Your main concern should not be your comfort. If you must worry, worry about your privacy and security. The Meganotify adware jeopardizes them both. This parasite spies on you and threatens to reveal the collected information to the public. It monitors your browsing activities. Which websites you visit, what videos you watch, what links you follow. Even the Incognito mode of your browser cannot hide you. Your every online step is recorded and analyzed. As for the collected data, it is used against you. The adware sells access to it. Anyone who uses the parasite as an adverting platform can access and use the data. The crooks use the adware and its resources to prepare customized adverts and to force them on you. Their ads are irresistible, yet, when you click, bad things happen. You are more likely to get redirected to phishing and potentially infected websites than to legitimate ones. Don’t risk it! Protect yourself. Remove the Meganotify adware before it lures you into an online trap!
