How did I get infected with?

The CercaVoli PUP uses not one, but many distribution methods. The most commonly used one, undoubtedly, is the bundling technique. This technique relies on your negligence. Developers attach malicious apps to the installation files of many free programs. When you start the setup of such a bundle, you will be asked which installation method you prefer: the standard or the advanced option. Choose the advanced method. Only under it can you see all attached programs. Don’t install them. More often than not, these third party apps are malicious. Furthermore, if you truly needed such programs, you would have downloaded them by yourself. This is your computer. You are the one who decides what to be installed on it. Other malware distribution methods are torrents, spam emails, and fake software updates. What all these methods have in common is the fact that they count on your negligence. Be vigilant instead. If you are careful, you can prevent most infections. Leave the rest to your anti-virus software.

Why is this dangerous?

The CercaVoli PUP is not a tool you would wish to keep on your computer. This app will drown you in a sea of advertisements. Every website you visit will be covered in ad banners. Pop-up windows will cover your screen with coupons and discounts. Dealing with the malicious tool, you will notice that all adverts have something in common. All ads are appealing. This is not a coincidence. CercaVoli is not going to expose you to just any sort of adverts. It will select the ads it displays. And to select the right kind of commercials, this app needs to know what your interests are. This task is much easier than you think. CercaVoli is programmed to monitor all your browser related data. In other words, it is constantly spying on you. Everything you do online is monitored. Which websites you visit, favorite pages, even your pre-infection browsing history. Yet, the malicious tool will not use this information for marketing purposes only. It will sell every bit of data to third parties. Oh, yes. Information about you and your habits will be sold. The problem is, this data may contain information about your email addresses, usernames, credit details and even passwords. If a hacker buys it, the consequences will be devastating. Keeping CercaVoli on board is not worth the risk. This app appears to be useful, yet, the coupons and discounts it displays are not what they seem to be. Scammers often use such applications to spread corrupted content. If you click on such an app, you will be redirected to an infected website. One click is all it takes for a virus to be downloaded directly on your PC. Spare yourself the trouble. Remove the intruder before it is too late.
