Can’t Remove Web Companion? This page includes detailed Web Companion Removal instructions!
Web Companion is an application developed by Lavasoft. It is supposed to protect your browser against all kinds of online threats. The app is not an anti-virus application, but an additional layer of protection. It promises to guard your browser against adware, spyware, spamware, and other similar unwanted parasites. Ironically, Web Companion itself shares similar features with the above-mentioned parasites. The program uses stealth installation, as well as modifies your settings without your permission. To provide its services, Web Companion also uses surveillance. And to top it all off, it displays adverts. Thus, many security researchers classify this app as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). If you don’t find Web Companion useful, consider its removal. The program has useful features, however, your anti-virus app might also have them. Do you really need two apps doing one same thing? It’s not worth the RAM usage. The PUP, after all, uses computer resources to operate. The app makes your browser heavier, and thus, your system less responsive. This PUP also has unwanted symptoms like browser redirection and ad-interference. It can have a negative impact on your browser, as well as your browsing experience. Do not put up with this situation. Spare yourself many future headaches. If you don’t find the PUP useful, remove it!
How did I get infected with Web Companion?
Web Companion has an official website and download page. Still, that’s not the only distribution method it uses. The PUP also gets installed along with other programs. This parasite uses software bundles to travel the web. It is usually attached as a bonus app to the payload files of third-party programs. When you start the installation of such a bundle, you would be given the opportunity to uncheck the extras. Yet, if you rush through an installation process, you might miss your chance to do so. Parasites like the Web Companion PUP rely on your recklessness. These programs cannot get installed without your permission. Thus, they lurk in the shadows and wait for you to make a mistake. Don’t make their job easier! No anti-virus app can protect you if you act recklessly. Only your caution can keep your device secure and virus-free. Don’t visit shady websites. Download your software from reputable sources only. When installing an app, pay attention to the fine print. If available, use the advanced/custom setup option. And, of course, read the terms and conditions before you agree to them. You can speed up this step by using an online EULA analyzer. If you detect anything out of the ordinary, abort the installation immediately!
Why is Web Companion dangerous?
The Web Companion PUP is not a virus. It cannot corrupt your system. Yet, it can corrupt your browsing experience. Without your explicit approval, the PUP takes control of your web browsers. It alters their settings and stats surveillance. The PUP monitors your browsing-related data. It knows your every online step. Which websites you visit, what videos you watch, what search queries you make. Even the Incognito mode of your browser cannot protect you. The PUP knows everything. Once it deems it has enough data, it starts ad-bombardment. Web Companion injects targeted ads on every website you load. It displays banner, in-text, and pop-up ads every time you go online. Every time you click on the ads, it gets paid. Thus, the PUP never stops. The problem is that the PUP gets paid to display ads, not to verify them. Anyone willing to spend some money can use the PUP and its resources. Numerous crooks are more than happy to pay. They use the collected data to create irresistible adverts. They use the PUP to push the ads on you, yet, when you click, bad things happen. The Web Companion PUP might redirect you to dangerous websites. Do you think that this program is worth the risk? If not, remove it ASAP!
