Suddenly Nefryhok Search took over your homepage and you cannot remove it.
Nefryhok Search is one of the many browser hijackers out there. It shares many similarities with Tavanero – a parasite we’re already tackled. As you could imagine, Nefryhok Search (Nefryhok.xyz) is malicious. Despite the fact it looks like a decent search engine, this is nothing but a tricky parasite. As a matter of fact, it was designed to make you think it’s legitimate. You should know better than to trust hackers, though. Nefryhok Search does exactly what a hijacker is supposed to do – it hijacks your browsers. As soon as the virus gets installed, it gets activated. For starters, it modifies your default browser homepage and favorite search engine. You will notice that both of them have been sneakily replaced by the hijacker’s domain. Now that this is complete, you’re forced to use Nefryhok Search constantly. This nuisance is extremely stubborn and hard to deal with. It takes control over your entire browsing experience. It initially promises to help you browse the Web faster and better. That is the last thing a hijacker would ever do. Behind its alluring facade, Nefryhok Search is after a much more prosaic goal. It certainly doesn’t involve enhancing your browsing activities. It does involve hackers’ illegitimate profit, though. The reason why this program makes you use its search engine is quite simple. Nefryhok Search shows you some specific search results. It generates modified, sponsored, highly unreliable links. Furthermore, the virus presents them as accurate search results. You see how dangerous that is, don’t you? Not only does the hijacker lie to your face but it also exposes you to malware. Keep in mind that none of the numerous links your browsers now display is trustworthy. This infection generates web traffic thus helping hackers gain money. Clicking any link generated by the hijacker makes some cyber crook a little bit richer. What is the solution to that? Restrain yourself from clicking. What’s even more worrisome is that the links on your PC screen may lead to malware. Being sponsored, these search results could be immensely harmful. Before you even know it, you might compromise your PC much further. In addition, Nefryhok Search is known to be monitoring your private data. That includes IP addresses, email addresses, passwords, usernames, even your browsing history. Crooks could sell your information to third parties for marketing purposes. However, that exposes your privacy to serious threats. For example, financial scams and identity theft are two horrifying scenarios that must be prevented.
How did I get infected with?
Nobody install hijackers voluntarily. That means this pest found a way to trick you into installing it. Hackers have a huge variety of infiltration methods to choose from so be careful. Avoid spam emails and messages from unknown senders. They might contain a vicious parasite and cause you serious harm. Secondly, be cautious when installing software. Freeware and shareware bundling is one of the most popular virus distribution techniques. Hijackers aren’t even the most dangerous thing out there. Trojan horses and ransomware travel the Web bundled too. To protect your safety, always opt for the Custom option in the Setup Wizard. This will indeed take you longer than simply clicking “I accept”. However, the “I accept” button provides you no information whatsoever about the programs you install. You might have to waste much more time later on fighting a PC infection. Save yourself the trouble and watch our for malware. Last but not least, check out the Terms and Conditions or EULA. Make sure you successfully outwit hackers every single time you surf the Internet.
Why is this dangerous?
Nefryhok Search’s presence is undesirable for various reasons. It sneaks in behind your back and messes with your browser settings. Then it adds an extension which works with the most commonly used browsers out there. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer are now unreliable. They generate tailored and unsafe web links that simply mist be avoided. Nefryhok Search might even generate fake software updates and third-party pop-up ads. Those are equally untrustworthy and potentially harmful. As mentioned already, the hijacker also jeopardizes your privacy. It leads to a poor PC performance and slows down your browsers as well. In short, this stealthy infection must be deleted as soon as possible. Don’t tolerate the hijacker and don’t let hackers harass you.
