How did I get infected with?

To get on board, browser hijackers rely on your negligence. One moment of carelessness is all it takes for these sneaky pests to compromise your computer. The key to a secure and infection-free machine is caution. There is no easy way. When installing a program, especially if it is a free one, pay attention to the installation wizard. Opt for a custom/advanced tab or button. This type of installation is a bit more time-consuming. However, only by using it, can you deny the installation of all bundled programs. The bundling technique is quite common nowadays. Developers tend to attach extra programs to the installation file of many free programs. The hijacker might have arrived as such additional app. Never rush through the installation process. Read the terms and conditions/EULA. If you spot anything out of the ordinary, abort the installation immediately. In addition, don’t forget that your anti-virus software is your last defense wall. Keep it up to date!

Why is this dangerous?

The hijacker is a menace that should not be tolerated. It sneaked into your computer uninvited and modified your browsers’ settings. For their popularity, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge are its most common targets. However, other browsers are not immune to this infection. Furthermore, if you have more than one browser installed, you must know that all of them will be infected. Run an anti-virus program to detect all malicious files and delete them. Or use our guide to it manually. Just, don’t waste time. This parasite acts as an open door for many dangerous online threats. The utility is exposing you to fake search results. Yes, the search entries you are seeing do look as if they are provided by a well-known search engine. However, the hijacker “injects” fake entries among them. These, most of the time, are ads. Yet, they are not marked as such. You will never know which results are organic and which are paid to be there. Doing an objective research will be impossible. On top of that, the advertisements you are seeing are not even safe. If you click on a corrupted ad or link, you will be redirected to an infected website. There, a drive-by download will be executed. Such downloads are automatic and almost completely invisible. Hackers often use them for malware distribution. The hijacker is trouble enough. Don’t risk getting infected with more dangerous parasites. Take actions to clean your device now!
