How did I get infected with?

As we said, this program is a typical representative of the adware family. That means InMobi follows the old familiar patterns when it comes to infecting computers. It usually travels the Web as a bonus attachment in so-called “freeware bundles”. However, you’re soon to be convinced that this particular bonus is about unwanted as they get. So how do you protect yourself from adware? Easily. You just have to spend more time checking the programs you install in advance as it’s a lot easier to stop a parasite at such an early stage than to delete something malicious that you already  let enter the PC. Don’t be careless and don’t overlook the installation process. If you spot something suspicious-looking that you do not want installed, deselect it. In order to do so, always opt for the Custom or Advanced option in the Setup Wizard. It’s very important to remember that unverified websites often offer highly questionable software that might turn out to be accompanied by all types of parasites. Therefore, our advice is to trust legitimate websites only even if their bundles do not come for free. At least they are virus-free. Other thing you should keep in mind is that spam email-attachments, spam messages and corrupted third-party advertisements still are an effective infiltration method. Never underestimate an online threat because hackers take advantage of every wrong move you may make. It’s your responsibility to make sure no infections enter the PC – your machine and your privacy depend on that.

Why are these ads dangerous?

This parasite works as a browser extension that is added to Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. The program’s compatibility with the most commonly used browsers out there only makes the mess bigger and nastier. If you thought that modifying the browser settings without your permission is an unfair thing to do, you might want to think again. InMobi’s manipulations are just getting started. Once the parasite installs its devious add-on, it starts spewing ads in your face. Apart from being unwanted, unrelated to your interests, stubborn and intrusive, the irritating InMobi ads are also potentially very dangerous. If its creators get paid enough, they will display corrupted web links among the safe ones and there is no telling which is which until you click. As you can see, though, this would be a very unfounded thing to do. Even if you not end up on some compromised website filled with malware, you might still get involved in a cyber scam and lose money. There is always the small chance of finding a real ad with a real product but it’s rather obvious that in this game of cyber Russian Roulette the odds are against you. All ads could be corrupted which means all ads have to be avoided. However, how do you avoid something that in constantly on your PC screen? The parasite doesn’t make it any easier for you to stay away from its trickery so the only reasonable thing to do in this scenario is delete InMobi. Apart from that, you should also be aware that your private online life is no longer private once the parasite has gotten itself installed. InMobi’s developers will be able to see your email-addresses, passwords, usernames, browsing history, etc. Remember those ads that were completely irrelevant and unrelated to your preferences? If you notice that they become a bit more appealing to you, that is because the hackers are actually using your own personal data against you to adjust the ads.
