How did I get infected with?

Cheapme relies mainly on stealthy methods so you shouldn’t be surprised if it infiltrated your computer in complete silence. Adware parasites in general apply underhanded techniques which makes them extremely dangerous. Think about it – your device is corrupted, you have no idea about it and you finally realize the truth when the virus decides to manifest itself. Hackers should never have so much control over your computer system. You should. We cannot stress enough the importance of being cautious when you surf the web and especially when you install freeware. Cheapme as well as many more parasites could easily get attached to other programs, that way they travel the web in bundles. Always opt for the advanced/custom option when you download freeware and deselect anything unfamiliar and suspicious. Remember, your cyber safety is up to you and no one else.

Why are these ads dangerous?

Not at first. You might get the wrong impression that Cheapme is useless, a bit too annoying and a bit too pushy for you liking. In reality though, this virus is all of that and a lot more. It was created with the sole purpose of helping hackers gain revenue and they do it by constantly redirecting you. Once it enters your computer, Cheapme automatically adds an extension to all your browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome) and it injects them with commercials. Those ads include pop-ups and pop-unders and banners and interstitials and hyperlinks so you will inevitably  experience troubles browsing the web. All advertisements are quite stubborn and the only way to remove them is by removing Cheapme first, otherwise the endless parade of commercials will get completely out of control. Keep in mind that the virus is ad-supported which means its developers don’t take any responsibility for the links they show you. Some of the ads you’re seeing on your PC screen might be indeed real but some of them could lead to corrupted websites and infect your machine even further. In case you refuse to jeopardize your safety and avoid the ads, Cheapme will try a different maneuver. The virus might try to present malware as “useful” software updates and could trick you into installing it. Be careful not to fall into this cheap trap, so our advice is to stay away from anything Cheapme offers you. Also, to continue the path of lies and deceit, Cheapme steals your browsing-related data and may use it to adjust the commercials. Cyber crooks want to gain money so they want your clicks. Therefore, they will not hesitate to use dubious methods in order to get them. Due to the malicious presence of the virus on your computer, the machine will experience slowdowns and even the Internet connection might have some issues. Your overwhelmed browsers could also freeze or crash and your overall online experience will become significantly slower. If you want to stop this mess for good, you have to delete Cheapme.
