Vprot.exe is a legitimate process which is part of the AVG AntiVirus products. If you use some of these anti-malware programs and you come across Vprotect, there’s no reason to panic. The vprot.exe is a component of said programs and it’s safe. On the other hand, the Vprotect application is light years away from being safe. This application shares a name with a valid software process but actually has nothing to do with it. You see, hackers often take advantage of legitimate and harmless programs to scam PC users. The only thing crooks are interested in is gaining profit so they are lying to your face. In fact, the Vprotect application has been classified as a potentially unwanted program (PUP). How Can I Remove Vprotect?

If you perform exactly the steps below you should be able to remove the Vprotect infection. Please, follow the procedures in the exact order. Please, consider to print this guide or have another computer at your disposal. You will NOT need any USB sticks or CDs.

• Open your task Manager by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC keys simultaneously
• Locate the process of Vprotect.exe and kill it

• Open your windows registry editor by typing”regedit” in the windows search box

Navigate to (Depending on your OS version)

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] or
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] or
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

and delete the display Name: Vprotect

Simultaneously press the Windows Logo Button and then “R” to open the Run Command

Type “Appwiz.cpl”

Locate the Vprotect program and click on uninstall/change. To facilitate the search you can sort the programs by date. Review the most recent installed programs first. In general you should remove all unknown programs.

Navigate to C:/Program Files and delete Vprotect folder. Double check with any antimalware program for any leftovers. Keep your software up-to date!
