How did I get infected with?

To spread their malware, DarkHydrus use a crafty selection of app and user vulnerabilities. Their scheme is simple, yet, effective. The criminals spread corrupted files through spam emails and Google Drive. They camouflage their malicious files as Excel documents. They lure you into downloading the files. But when you attempt to open them, a message pops up. Your file editor asks whether you approve the use of data connections. If you click on the “Enable” button, malicious macros start and download the RogueRobin’s payload file. At this point, another dialog window opens. It asks permission to start another app that can load the downloaded data. If you approve this action, the virus installs. Do not give into naivety. Viruses like RogueRobin lurk in the shadows and wait for you to make a mistake. No anti-virus app can protect you if you act recklessly. Only your caution is powerful enough to keep your system secure and virus-free. Even a little extra attention can spare you tons of problems. Don’t visit shady websites. Download software and updates from reliable sources only. And be extremely careful how you interact with your inbox. Treat all unexpected messages as potential threats. If you receive such an email, don’t open it. Verify its sender first! If the message is from an organization, your bank, for example, go to their official website. Compare the email addresses listed there to the questionable one. If they don’t match, delete the pretender immediately. You can also enter the suspicious email address into a search engine. If it was used for shady business, someone might have complained online, do this for all types of messages. Whether they are instant messages or online comments, don’t follow links shared by unverified senders.
