How did I get infected with?

Take a wild guess as to how MacCost managed to slither into your system. Unless your answer was “through deceit and trickery”, you’re wrong. Like most adware, the application resorts to slyness and subtlety to sneak in, without you even sensing it. That requires great skill, considering the tool is bound to ask for your permission before it installs itself. Pretty impressive, isn’t it? The PUP is a full-on master when it comes to deception and finesse. It does indeed ask for your approval, but it does so covertly. For example, it can hide behind corrupted links or websites, or hitch a ride with freeware or spam email attachments. That’s why you should be extra attentive when installing a new program or a supposed update on your computer. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case as most users tend to give into carelessness, gullibility, and haste. They pay for their lack o attention when they find themselves dealing with a hazardous infection and its never-ending pile of troubles. If you wish to avoid getting stuck with an application like MacCost, be more cautious! A little extra attention goes a long way.

Why are these ads dangerous?

As you would gather from the name of the infection, MacCost tends to focus on Mac users. However, that doesn’t limit its attacks ONLY for that particular group. The adware also affects other users. So, don’t think you’re safe just because you don’t use Mac. Everyone is fair game, so don’t underestimate this adware. It’s quite damaging. Once it slithers its way in, it spends some time laying low. It doesn’t immediately start causing trouble. At least not obviously. Does that sound confusing? Well, at first the tool lurks somewhere in the corners of your PC, and spies on you. It observes your online activities so as to understand you better. You might be wondering why an adware infection aims to get to know you better. Easy. The tool tries to learn what you like and what appeals to you to increase its likelihood of success when it begins to bombard you with pop-ups. Don’t think it just throws random ads your way. Each ad you see was carefully selected for you, and you alone. The program leaves nothing to chance, considering its entire existence rests on your clicks. Each ad you press generates pay-per-click revenue for the third parties that support it and ensures its survival. Don’t fall for the ads seeming appeal. If you click on even a single advertisement, you WILL most certainly regret it as a click results in more unwanted malware installs. MacCost is a treacherous application that claims to assist you in increasing your savings. Supposedly, these pop-ups it shows you display all the best deals and bargains, and to some extent they do. But to take advantage of these seemingly fantastic offers, you have to click on the pop-ups. As was already stated, that would be a mistake. So, what’s the purpose of this program? Look past the smoke and mirrors of marketing, and you’ll realize the tool’s presence will lead to nothing positive for you. Only grief and headaches. So, save yourself the time and energy of dealing with  MacCost, and delete it immediately. Protect your privacy and your system’s well-being.
