The Coupon Simplified New Tab looks like a useful app. It is supposed to display coupons and discounts. This program, however, is not what it pretends to be. Security researchers have classified it as a browser hijacker. This parasite does display coupons, but not the good kind. The New Tab hijacker is a malicious ad-generating program. It injects hundreds of advertisements on every website you open. Banners, hyperlinks, video and in-text ads will blink on whichever page you open. You will hate the commercials. They will appear when you least expect them. The displayed adverts, however, are not randomly selected. The Coupon Simplified New Tab app custom selects adverts for you. To do so, it must know your preferences. How do you think this magic works? The hijacker uses your browser as a spying device. All your online activities are recorded and analyzed. The Coupon Simplified New Tab hijacker knows which websites you visit, what search inquiries you make, what links you follow. Every bit of information you enter via your browser is recorded. Keep in mind that the Incognito mode of your browser will not hide you from the hijacker. This parasite knows everything. And it uses this information to its advantage. Thus, if you enter “sneakers” into some search engine, the hijacker will immediately flood you with coupons and discounts for sports shoes. The hijacker will generate revenue for every advert you click on. And so, the Coupon Simplified New Tab hijacker does not limit the number of adverts it displays. You will see numerous adverts. These ads are not only annoying, they are recourse-consuming. The more ads you see, the slower your device will become. Your browser will start to freeze and crash frequently. How did I get infected with?
The Coupon Simplified New Tab hijacker has an official download. Yet, we won’t be surprised if you can’t recall downloading this parasite. To reach its victims, the hijacker uses a lot of trickery. Obviously, no one will download an infection on purpose. Therefore, the parasite uses camouflage. It is usually attached as an extra program to the payload file of many free apps. This method is called software bundling. It is quite common nowadays, so be careful when you install programs. If you are offered an Advanced Installation option, by all means, select it. Under it, you will be presented with a list of all “bonus” programs that are about to be installed. Examine them carefully. More often than not, these extras are malicious. Take your time to read the Terms and Conditions/End User License Agreement (EULA). If you spot anything out of the ordinary, abort the installation. Keep in mind that you can deselect all extras and still install the app you originally planned to set up. If some instructions state otherwise, there must be something wrong with the software copy you’ve downloaded. It might have been corrupted. Be always on your guard. The Internet is a dangerous place. You can never know where an infection might strike from! Be always vigilant and doubting!
Why is this dangerous?
The Coupon Simplified New Tab hijacker jeopardizes both your security and privacy. This infection monitors your browser-related data and uses the collected information about you. This data is mainly used for ad-targeting, but do you know who the advertisers are? They are often crooks. As long as they pay, anyone can use the hijacker to promote. The hijacker knows your preferences, right? By using the hijacker, the crooks have access to this information. They can use it to target you with custom ad-campaigns. If an offer looks too good to be true, it probably isn’t. The crooks are master deceivers. They will bombard you with tons of misleading adverts. They may use the hijacker to redirect you to spam websites. What is worse, you may end up on an infected page. You already have the Coupon Simplified New Tab hijacker.
