How did I get infected with?
Adware tools are sneaky. They turn to trickery and finesse to get you to approve them in. And, you not only do that, but don’t even realize it. Oh, yes! These tools get you to give them the green light, while keeping you in the dark. Let’s explain. Adware programs need user’s permission to enter a system. Without it, they can’t proceed with installment. They have to ask if you, the user, agree to allow them in. To avoid rejection, they ask in the most covert way possible. For example, they lurk behind freeware or spam emails. Or, corrupted links. Or, even, pose as fake updates. There’s a myriad of manners, they can turn to, and trick you. Ultimately, they all rely on your carelessness, to prove successful. They need you to throw caution to the wind, and leave your fate to chance. Don’t. Always be thorough. Know what you agree to, and do your due diligence. Don’t agree to anything, without knowing what it is. Vigilance increases your chances of avoiding the display of sites, like Activetect.net.
Why is this dangerous?
Activetect.net pops up at every turn. Open a new tab, and it’s there. Type a search, it’s there, among the results. It seems to be everywhere. Even all the ads you get flooded with, feature the site. Each banner, in-text, and pop-up ad is ‘Powered by Activetect.net.’ And, you get stuck seeing quite a lot of them. The constant redirects, coupled with the ad bombardment, have consequences. They cause your system to suffer frequent crashes. And, slow down your computer’s performance to a crawl. And, as stated these issues are rather minor, compared to the security risk. You see, the adware has programming to spy on you from the moment it invades. That’s what it does. It monitors your activities, and records everything you do. When it determines it has collected enough data, it sends it. It hands it over to the unknown individuals, who published the adware. Cyber criminals with malicious intentions. Not people, you can trust with such sensitive data. Don’t extend the infection’s stay, but cut it as short as possible. Find where the adware lurks, and remove it.
